Findmypast to recognize Canada

It has been disappointing that Findmypast has shown little interested in Canadian records.
Now it appears that will start to change this year with their plan to add the Canadian census records toward the end of the year. That will be followed by new digitization of other records.

See the news in this interview from RootsTech.

As the censuses are already available through free through other sources, this is hardly a major commitment.

Yes, I was just going to say the same thing - total waste of resources, when they are free elsewhere.

Well, it's nice that they have noticed we exist. Cheers, BT

The same thing could be said about Ancestry's Web databases. I suspect Findmypast want to provide a facility from their site where subscribers can access the Canadian census along with all their other data in a single search -- one stop shopping. It's unlikely they'll do an entirely independent index.

This is just the beginning. FMP are committed to digitizing many of the other records held by LAC and making them available online. FMP has greater resources, in man-power, money and equipment than LAC does so this really will be a win for those researching in the Canadian records.
